Known as The French Woodstock, this festival was planned to last 36 hours, but poor organization of the festival caused many of the bands to refuse to play. Only 4,000 of the 30,000 festival goers paid the 30 francs to attend the festival, leading to a shortage of money to pay the bands. When the Soft Machine learned that they would not be paid, they refused to play. When the crowd was told of the situation, it rioted, the stage was burned, and equipment destroyed. The remainder of the festival had to be canceled. The French later called this festival "Festival Maudit de Biot" which means the cursed festival of Biot.
